How to switch provider

If you aren’t happy with your current broadband service, you can always consider switching broadband provider. There are many reasons why people stick with the same provider, but checking out different deals could save you money, and give you the service that you really want. If you are thinking about switching broadband provider, our broadband switch experts have put together a few tips, tricks and ideas to help you.

Before switching broadband provider you must get your MAC or Migration Authorisation Code from your original provider; this is an alphanumeric number which your new broadband supplier will need in order to instigate your switch. All you have to do is phone your old provider and ask for the code; they are obliged to give it to you and you should receive it within 5 days, with its validity lasting for 30 days.

Beware of the sales people working for your original ISP, or internet service provider. They will have some kind of sales retention team that will work to keep you, but if you have made up your mind then stick with it.

It is also important that you do not cancel your current contract with immediate effect after you receive the MAC code; there’s a chance the switch could take over a week, and you probably do not want to be without broadband for any length of time. Once you have the MAC code you can move forward with your new broadband deal, and start enjoying a service that suits you.

Getting a great deal

With so many providers offering multiple deals on broadband, it can prove a little tiresome and time-consuming trying to work out which one will prove to be the best for your own personal circumstances. Obviously different people are looking for different things from their broadband package; some are searching for something simple but effective for moderate levels of web usage, whereas others will be after the most comprehensive package, with mind-boggling download speed and no data restrictions.

It’s important to remember that searching for a great deal does not necessarily mean finding the cheapest option, contrary to popular belief. You need to consider your usual web usage and service requirements; if you choose a cheap deal with limited downloads, but regularly stream movies and music, the cheapest deal will probably not prove to be the best choice. You should also consider line rental; some providers offer a great upfront deal, but when you add that provider’s line rental cost it may actually prove more expensive than another similar deal.

If you really want to find a great deal, with upfront information about every aspect of the offer, then the best way is to compare broadband providers using the Broadband Finder comparison tools. Broadband Finder has built a dedicated, fast and effective website that is engineered to provide comprehensive, clear and concise results, based on your search criteria. The deals are arranged in a format designed for optimum usability, so that it’s easy for you to distinguish the plus points and benefits of each offer.

Using Broadband Finder provides you with the best opportunity to find a great broadband deal that is perfect for your needs, and with our Broadband Tools, news feed, blog and expert guides, you have everything you need to make a confident choice about your new home broadband.
