BT Hub comes Home on Option 1

BT Broadband are now offering the Home Hub to all their customers. The wireless router that was originally only available to Option 1 punters for a flat £30 fee is now included free, a la Options 2 and 3.

The BT Home Hub, one of the most widely used routers in the UK, is a multi-purpose piece of hardware which not only allows customers to connect to the net, but is also essential for the BT Vision digital TV service, online console gaming and wireless home networking.

Since the launch of the BT Home Hub, we have seen a limited edition black version released along with a newer slimline ‘1.5′ version, which comes with a sleeker chassis and a more user friendly security interface.

BT have recently inked a deal with Microsoft which will allow Xbox 360 gamers to hook up their console to the Home Hub and use their games machine as a BT Vision set top box, further enhancing the home entertainment capabilities of the games machine.

Every time I move house, BT lose the paperwork, start a new contract and send me another BT Home Hub. I have several now. I wonder if these will be the new AOL CD? :)

Also I’ve noticed my Home Hub is terribly light, there can’t be much in there. I imagine the slimline version is just a smaller box with the same stuff inside it.

Great news for Xbox owners though!

The Xbox news is indeed pretty sweet, they’ll want to compete with the PlayStaion 3’s Freeview-style service which should be launched this summer.

Maybe BT should set up a return policy for old Hubs. Cluttering up the landscape like old washing machines…

i have just given bt broadband my 30 days cancelation notice to which the chap on the other side said can i ask why your leaving us, i told him that after many hours on the phone to his help desk without any resulution (incredibly slow broadband) i had taken enough and was going to find a new provider, his reply was oh no problem mr macdonald i can increase your speed right away for you, “no way” says i “how can you do that after all my hastle” well he says, that no problem your actually on the lowest broadband we offer. “how’s that when im paying for the top service” i said, he reply’d, your on the old “upto 8 meg service and we only have to give you minimum service for that but i can garantee you 4meg from now on if you sign up for another 12 month contract”. not a ******* chance says i…. so the moral of the story is.. stay well clear of bt. i have included my email addy if you want to confirm any of this with me. “i know its unbelievable but its true” … never again … stay away from bt they will rob you rotten.

All the BT services offer ‘up to’ 8 meg, but I don’t know about them guaranteeing speeds unless this is some sort of new policy they’ve not yet announced to the press.

Just out of interest Malcolm, who will you be going to?

The home hub sounds just the ticket but because i signed up approx 3/4 weeks ago when asking if i could have one the answer was because i was only on a basic fee i had to pay over 80 pounds so do not think they want to keep my custom. Very disappointed with the whole issue.
Good customer relations! I dont think! I have been with BT re my phone for over 30 years time to move on.
