Sky Songs: Free download for Sky Broadband subscribers RSS

skysongs_screengrabSky’s the limit right? Leading pay-TV operator and rising star of UK broadband Sky is preparing to launch a new digital music service to rival the likes of Spotify and iTunes as well as Virgin Media’s recently announced Music Unlimited platform.

Called Sky Songs, the service launches on the 19th of October in a week’s time and will be available to anyone in the UK with broadband. Over four million songs will be available to both stream and download on a subscription basis.

Like Spotify, Sky Songs offers customers unlimited streaming of songs from its impressive catalog which is stocked with hits from all the major labels including Sony Music UK and a number of independent labels (unconfirmed but we’re guessing Beggars and Domino).

As well as providing unlimited uninterrupted streaming, Sky Songs also gives you a set number of downloads per month. The £6.49 package allows you to download either 10 songs or a single £6.49 album. The £7.99 a month subscription by contrast gives you the choice of downloading 15 songs a month, or a single album worth £7.99. Individual tracks are also available to download from 65p, undercutting iTunes’ from 79p per song rates by a fair margin.

Whilst Sky Songs is available to anyone in the UK with a broadband connection, all Sky Broadband customers get a free download of an album worth £6.49.
