BT Sky Sports ad fronted by Michael Owen

An audacious advertising campaign is on its way from BT, which is designed to promote the broadcast of Sky Sports 1 and 2 through BT Vision.
Premiership legend and footballing icon Michael Owen is helping to drive awareness of BT’s recent deal with Sky, aided by fellow stars Gareth Bale, Wes Brown and Shay Given.
The TV advert will see BT’s promo veteran Kris Marshall leave his flat, travel down through a lift and head into the car park, where there is a white light accompanied by the noise of a cheering crowd. The white light leads him into a stadium tunnel, where a host of Premiership names are waiting to run out on pitch.
The climactic finale will see the lucky BT Broadband and Vision enthusiast follow the lads onto the field.
The campaign begins today, and is costing BT over £30 million thanks to advertising which includes TV, radio, press, outdoor, direct marketing and online.
BT Retail marketing director Matthew Dearden said: “We are proud and excited to bring our customers the best in UK sports viewing in time for the new football season, including Sky Sports 1, Sky Sports 2 and ESPN.”
“By using footballers such as Michael Owen in this campaign we are tapping into the passion that fans feel for their sport, and showcasing the quality of the BT Vision sport offering. Entry prices as low as £6.99 will welcome in a huge number of extra customers who’d love to enjoy these channels, but thought they were too expensive.”
BT customers can begin ordering Sky Sports today, along with the option of including ESPN and sports on demand; a few variations are available including Sky Sports 1 and 2 together for £16.99 on a month-by-month contract, or either channel individually for 11.99 with a 12 month BT Broadband and Vision contract.
