AOL customers are set to see a "fundamental transformation" of the company, including the announcement that David Harmon has been named the new executive vice president of the broadband provider.
Mr Harmon will oversee the human resources element of the company, which he has indicated includes attracting the best new talent to AOL.
"I'm excited at the opportunity to align our talent with AOL's new global strategy, and to work with the company's many skilled, creative and dedicated employees," commented Mr Harmon.
AOL's chairman and chief executive officer Randy Falco added that the new appointment was a way of creating a "people strategy" to support upcoming changes.
Earlier in the year AOL announced that as part of its new developments, it was launching a new real-time messaging service targeted at the deaf and hard-of-hearing.
According to the company, 1.7 billion instant messages were sent across AOL's messaging networks every day in 2007.

AOL is a great ISP, but my allegiance to it is starting to wane lately - thanks to its inability to address a vital access issue (ie: can't get my emails & account normally any more).
Posted: 09/03/2008 at 01:31:37 by EddyBryanI've been with AOL many years, but this recent connectivity fault is forcing me to look at other ISPs very seriously.
It's a shame that someone in AOL has trashed an otherwise great product.
Yet it hasn't been sorted out for weeks, with many customers suffering the same issue.
And you're talking about "... succeeding as a global web firm."?
Wait a minute. I don't mean the 25 minutes that I had to 0844-for, either. Nor the fact that there's no-one that can be directly emailed to (as a first POC) in your organisation.
Hence these words here.
Must do better, AOL.
