AOL gets the football season started
Monday 3rd August 2009, by Daniel King
AOL has announced a new online service for football fans that has been launched just in time for the start of the new season.
Fans of the Barclays Premier League looking forward to the FA Community Shield game between Chelsea and Manchester United this weekend may be considering switching internet providers to take advantage of the live coverage on Sky.
However, AOL has given them something else to cheer about this week with FanHouse UK, an online portal where they can keep track of the latest soccer action and transfer news.
In addition to stories and analysis from guest writers, including former government aid Alastair Campbell, live blogging and the chance to join in the debate will also be provided.
Mr Campbell's role will focus primarily on the trials and tribulations of his own club Burnley, as they return to the league after a 33-year absence and have to take on the might of high profile premiership stalwarts like Manchester City, Liverpool and Arsenal - to name just a few.
Bill Wilson, president of AOL Media, said the firm had a great deal of success in making fans more aware of the facility and this launch represents a further push into mainstream sports media.
"High-quality reporting, commentary and analysis, with a unique and diverse set of voices [
] make FanHouse a daily must-read for any serious fan. We are delighted to be launching [the] brand in the UK with a dedicated English Premier League offering," he added.
The FA Community Shield shows on Sky Sports this weekend at 15:00 BST.
