Yahoo completes $680 million ad buyout

Yahoo has completed its purchase of online ad exchange giant Right Media for $680 million (£340 million).
The search engine giant took a 20 per cent stake in the firm last October but decided to complete the buyout after Google's purchase of advertising provider DoubleClick last week for $3.1 billion (£1.6 billion).
Right Media's specialty is in providing targeted ads to smaller websites with less traffic than traditional advertising networks.

Court rap for BT over broadband blunder

A landmark court ruling in London has criticised BT for severing a mortgage company's broadband internet connection and then not mending it quick enough, according to reports.
Engineers mistakenly cut mortgage brokers Capital Fortune's broadband link and staff at the firm were left so angry that BT did not respond to its concerns quick enough that they launched legal action.
The company claims its bill for the loss of the connection came to four figures and many of its customers were unable to complete their mortgage deals.

Broadband reaches 1 in 3 Europeans

Almost a third of Europeans are now wired up to a high speed broadband connection, according to a new report by the European Commission (EC).
The survey of 27,000 households across the continent found that while broadband was on the rise, fixed phone landlines are becoming less popular as people are moving over to internet telephony.
Due to the increase in bundling packages available to customers nowadays, nearly a fifth of Europeans buy two or more telecom products from a single company, with the combination of fixed phone lines and internet access being the most common bundled products.
