Mobile internet access at work 'on the increase'

Employees prevented from using the internet at work are using their mobile phones to surf in secret or during lunch, new research claims.
More than a quarter (26 per cent) of workers cannot use the internet at all at work, while some employers limit use by banning popular sites like Google and webmail services like Hotmail.
The nationwide study by T-Mobile also showed that almost half of the employees polled (48 per cent) use their mobile phone to access the internet at work while 15 per cent of people regularly take their mobile phone to the toilet to access the internet.

Rural broadband opportunities set to expand

Wireless broadband has been given the green light to be rolled out across the entire country, including rural areas, Ofcom has announced.
The regulator has altered rules for the 5.8 GHz band which will enable operators to pump up signal strength.
The power increase in this band will make it cheaper for operators to use this band to provide fixed broadband access to remote parts of the UK and Ofcom expects that areas of countryside that have not previously been able to get broadband could find that they now can.

Virgin Media: Many Britons waste too much money on broadband

Many Britons are wasting too much money on broadband services by failing to look around for the best deals, according to a new survey from a broadband provider.
Virgin Media found that many people have spent large sums on buying hi-tech gadgets – in spite of the fact that many find using even their most basic functions a difficult task.
Some four per cent of respondents said they could not remember what services their phone, broadband and TV providers offer, while 17 per cent said they "can't be bothered" to switch to cheaper providers, even though substantial savings could be made.
