Nokia takes on Apple in downloading market

Apple's iTunes store is set to have a new rival as mobile phone handset manufacturer Nokia has launched a music and gaming download store.
The Nokia Music Store will offer users of its 3G handsets access to thousands of albums from their phones or PCs. The price of a track will start at 1 (67p) with albums costing from 10 (£6.70).
It will make Nokia a direct rival to Apple, which integrates a similar system on its iPhone. Nokia has also launched a new range of phones compatible with the new technology, which will go live this autumn.

VoIP 'is more secure than other phone systems'

Internet experts are insisting that Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) calls are more secure than traditional phone systems, despite two high-profile security conferences claiming otherwise.
The recent Black Hat and Defcon conferences have seen a range of security flaws uncovered in VoIP, with researchers releasing hacking tools against VoIP signaling protocols at Black Hat.
However Aro Takanen, founder of Codenomicon, told telappliant.com: "IP systems are more exposed, but you have more security that you can install."

UK broadband system 'to be used as EU template'

The splitting of the networks and services division of BT to create a more competitive market has been praised by a European commissioner.
Viviane Reding, EU media commissioner, has stated that the success of the splitting of BT could be used as a template across Europe to boost the broadband market, the Financial Times reports.
The EU is currently investigating how to encourage investment in new ultra-fast broadband networks and adopting a similar methodology to that of BT's split is seen as one potential solution.
