BE Broadband calls on customers for fibre input
Tuesday 20th July 2010, by Daniel King
BE Broadband has launched a new survey calling on its UK customers to tell the firm what they expect when the company finally launches a fibre broadband service.
By its own admission, BE Broadband has been particularly quiet in recent weeks about the possibility of launching a fibre-based internet service.
It claims that this is because it recognises that fibre is the "key next step" when it comes to broadband services.
The firm also said its silence on the matter is because it doesn't want to make promises it is "unable to keep".
Tom Williams, managing director of BE Broadband, said the firm "really wants" to offer "faster and faster" speeds to its customers and knows that a fibre solution is called for in the near future.
However, he added that the company can't afford to lay its own fibre and it is therefore investigating what wholesale products are available in the current market.
According to Mr Williams, this means that once a fibre service is put together by BE, it will be hampered by some initial speed restrictions.
He claimed that support and general customer service quality will also be affected.
"Whatever we offer, it won't be perfect straight away – though it will improve over time," he said.
"We want to get your input while we're investigating the options. We want to build the BE fibre product around you as much as possible."
The comments follow the publication of the firm's latest customer satisfaction survey, which highlighted a growing desire for BE to offer a fibre-based internet service.
