Be Broadband gets tweeters to promote its deals

Wednesday 19th January 2011, by Daniel King

An internet service provider is hoping to attract more subscribers by encouraging existing customers to recommend its services on a social networking site.

The campaign by Be, a subsidiary of the network operator O2, has launched a game called "Be a Hero", through which customers will vouch through personal tweets to friends their love of the network.

If a follower clicks through to the provided link and chooses to buy a package from the broadband provider, the friend will receive additional credit of £20.

Customers will also be incentivised to tweet as many personal recommendations as possible by the use of a league table of Twitter users most successful in getting their friends to sign up.

Those who manage to enter the top ten of the table will rewarded with additional prizes.

Be is among the few ISPs that allow consumers to build their own broadband packages, which could reach up to 24Mbps download speeds and 2.5Mbp upload speeds.

In addition, all packages have unlimited speeds, with the option of adding up to 16 IP addresses.

Rival Talk Talk also announced one of its cheapest packages ever this week, where consumers will be able to claim a free connection, and will only have to pay half-price for six months broadband access.

It also offers download speeds of up to 24Mb.

However, consumers may be awaiting more details on its superfast broadband boost, which could see existing and new subscribers benefiting from speeds up to 40Mbps.

Registration is currently open on the deal, which could make Talk Talk one of the most competitive broadband internet service providers on the market.
