O2-owned Be Broadband has launched its Be Value package at a cut price for the rest of the year.

It is called the 888 promotion because customers can get up to 8 mbps for £8 for the remainder of 2008. The promotion also officially launches on 08/08/08.

The package normally costs £14 a month and it will return to this price in January.

Oli White, head of marketing at Be Broadband, said: "Be value offers an up to 8 mbps service for a generation of users for whom broadband is an essential part of their lifestyle."

The package also offers upload speeds of up to 1.3 mbps (utilising ADSL2+), a free modem, a free 24-hour support line and unlimited downloads. However, there is a £24 connection fee.

According to Be Broadband, which was established in 2004, its first-ever connected customer averaged a speed of 18.5 mbps.
