Be Broadband offers free connection

Tuesday 9th December 2008, by Daniel King

Internet service provider (ISP) Be Broadband is offering its customers a free broadband service until the end of December.

Subscribers do not have to pay any connection fee and the offer is available until December 14th.

Once this period has expired, services will return to normal and the offer is subject to location and availability.

The only fee that needs to be paid is to BT for the line rental.

Broadband customers who take advantage of the promotion need to sign up to a minimum tern contract.

Be Broadband has also released a statement about the block on Wikipedia put in place by the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF).

The online encyclopaedia was added to the block list because an image of a naked underage girl could be found on the site.

It is from a controversial album cover found on German rock band Scorpions' 1976 LP Virgin Killer.

The UK ISP said: "This is the first time that a situation like this has occurred since Be signed up to the Internet Watch Foundation, a scheme that we signed up to with our member's best interests in mind."

Be Broadband added that it is looking to ensure that whatever happens next benefits its members and that the reasons behind it are clearly communicated.

The firm said that the page has been blocked because the IWF considers that "it would be illegal to view it under English law".

It said that it is yet to confirm this and said it will let members know as soon as anything is confirmed.
