Be Broadband reintroduces line bonding technology
Wednesday 9th November 2011, by Simon White
Be Broadband has re-launched its line bonding technology, meaning that customers can now boost the speed of their broadband deals without the need for any other services.
The system operates by taking two broadband lines and combining them to power a single connection, leaving consumers with double their upload and download rates.
These connections are merged by the router, so people can plug it straight into existing networks in home or at the office.
Line bonding functions in a different way to fibre, as it uses different infrastructure and more traditional technology. It is available to both home broadband customers and businesses now.
Prices reflect the higher connection speeds and may not be affordable for all broadband customers, but the technology could be key for people who require an unlimited, reliable, high speed connection that is a useful alternative to leased lines or SDSL.
Furthermore, the faster speeds gained from the service could make it a beneficial option for people who seek a better connection but are restricted as a result of their distance from their nearest exchange.
A representative for Be Broadband noted one key advantage of the service.
They explained: "A side benefit that's popular with businesses and people who run servers is that the two lines are independent, which can improve redundancy."
Britain's broadband market has seen many advancements in recent months, with Virgin Media one of the providers that have made strong progress.
It recently confirmed that its 100Mb broadband deals are now available to a third of the UK.
Virgin Media is also planning to complete the expansion across its entire network by the middle of next year.
On top of this, the broadband provider has seen accelerated demand for faster broadband, with 178,300 more households now paying for 30Mb connections or faster in the three months to the end of September.
