Be Broadband to launch speed tester on website
Be Broadband has announced that the main page of its website will feature a speed tester.
The UK internet service provider's (ISP) move is intended to show the firm's commitment to the voluntary Code of Practice (CoP) that was announced in June by Ofcom.
Rather than display advertising rates, the CoP obliges firms to show customers what speeds they can expect in reality.
Felix Geyr, managing director of Be Broadband, commented: "With the launch of this speed estimation tool, new customers can check the speed they will receive, rather than the 'up to' that other ISPs provide."
He added that the company felt it was a "step in the right direction" toward making customers feel less confused and more confident in the promises of ISPs.
Be Broadband currently off unlimited usage with speeds of up to 24 megabytes per second for £18 a month. This offer includes one static IP address for advanced users.

Speeds in excess of 2 meg are only available in certain areas. Top
speeds vary significantly, particularly according to how far away
you live from the exchange.
If your line won’t support our fastest broadband speed we’ll
give you the best available. The speed you actually get can also vary
depending on the quality of your line, the wiring in your house, the
time of day and even the weather.
