BE Broadband to offer line rental

Friday 6th August 2010, by Daniel King

BE Broadband has announced that it is to offer a landline service that is specifically tailored towards people who are mainly concerned about their broadband service.

The service, which costs £9.50 a month for a basic package, will undercut the main landline provider BT. However, the new service does not just beat BT when it comes to monthly rates; the installation charges are also significantly lower.

BE customers will be paying £85 for a new installation while BT punters will be hit with a bill for £127.99.

Tom Williams, managing director of BE, explained the new broadband-focussed service.

"We've responded to our members' requests to provide [a] landline [service] and have delivered it in a way that focuses on giving consumer's control – no excessively long contracts, no automatic contract renewals, and no unnecessary bundling of features that increase the cost to the customer," he said.

"We want people to be able to get on with living their online lives with minimal disruption, and the launch of the new landline service will help us to achieve this."

BE was recently named Best Consumer Broadband by the Internet Services Providers' Association. The company offers high-quality speeds of up to 24MB and customers who choose to take a phone line from the company can choose from a range of bundles which include national international call options.

Comments on the company's blog suggest that consumers have welcomed the announcement, with one customer noting: "I want this now as I am fed up of BT price hikes."
