Broadband optimisation 'is significant for gamers'

Be Broadband's recent broadband optimisation option for subscribers is likely to be particularly useful for gamers, it has been claimed.

According to Thomas Newton, a broadband expert from UK Web Media, the service will enable them to get the most from their connection.

Be's new system allows broadband users to change their settings to either get the best speed or reliability.

It also has a specially tailored gaming option which will help gamers to get the fastest response times when connecting to servers.

Mr Newton noted that gamers are likely to benefit the most as they are the ones who are often most eager to "tweak" their set-up to get the best performance.

This, he said, is because online gaming, in particular first-person shooters, require the fastest connections possible to combat lag and ensure good gameplay.

"In online multiplayer arenas, especially in first person shooters, the ability to customise connection settings so that game lag is less of a problem will be indispensable to avid game players."

The willingness of online gamers to adjust the settings of their computers could mean that they will welcome the opportunity to do so with their internet connection.

ComScore, an internet information provider, recently revealed that there are 217 million online gamers throughout the world.

It also found that this industry has a year-on-year growth of 17 per cent. One in four of all those who use the internet visit a gaming site.

Sites that offer internet play account for over a quarter of the worlds total internet population.
