O2 launches new broadband package
Monday 22nd December 2008, by Daniel King
Internet service provider (ISP) O2 has announced the introduction of a new Premium Home Broadband package.
The service will cost £9.76 per month for those who already have an O2 mobile account.
Users can expect to achieve speeds of up to 20Mbps and get an unlimited usage allowance with their subscription.
Those who do not already have an O2 mobile service can still switch to the service, but it will cost £14.68, reports ISP Review.
As well as the Premium service, O2 has unveiled its Pro package, which is designed for heavy consumer internet users.
The connection costs £17.13 for mobile customers and £22.02 for non-O2 mobile users.
It could be the ideal option for those with a small business or who stream large amounts of video files.
Both packages require users to sign up for the service for at least 12 months.
They are both available from specially unbundled exchanges.
The pro service has an enhanced wireless 802.11n router with download speeds of up to 20Mbps with a 2.5Mbps upload.
It features prioritised UK-based 24-hour customer service with unlimited usage allowance and the option of a free static IP address.
Last month, O2 released its third quarter results, which showed that the number of subscribers to the ISP rose to 267,090 consumers.
In the second quarter of 2008, the firm had only 194,220 people signed up to its services.
While a number of ISPs have seen a decline or slowdown in uptake, O2 has reported an increased growth rate.
In quarter two, O2 added 62,800 people to its books, a figure which rose by more than 10,000 in the next three months.
