Virgin Media lands top spot in broadband tests

Thursday 12th March 2009, by Daniel King

Virgin Media has been identified as the top mobile broadband provider in terms of accessibility and ease of use.

The company's mobile service emerged as the most user-friendly of the lot in a group test by consumer magazine Which?, beating off competition from rival operators including O2, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone.

While T-Mobile was found to be the fastest mobile broadband provider in the country, Virgin Media's straightforward setup procedure and useful help documents proved popular with consumers.

The firm also ranked among the best for broadband customer service, alongside O2, and the company's managing director of mobile Graeme Oxby welcomed the outcome of the tests.

"It's fantastic that Virgin Media mobile broadband is achieving such acclaim," he commented.

"We always set out to deliver a mobile broadband product that would compliment our fibre-optic and ADSL offerings, which meant ensuring our high standards of usability, simplicity and service were met."

Mr Oxby added that the results were a testament to the "quality and value" offered by the operator's mobile service.

The results follow a similar mobile broadband survey by YouGov which named T-Mobile as the most consistent and reliable provider in the UK.

Almost 2,000 users were polled, with T-Mobile ranked first across nine out of 13 categories for customer satisfaction, including value for money, download and upload speeds and reliability during the day.

Head of internet and entertainment at the company Richard Warmsley said he was "particularly pleased" to see the firm achieve the top rating for value for money, which he recognised as "a key factor" for consumers in today's economic climate.
