Be Broadband has announced that it will now be allowing subscribers to change their internet connection settings.

It has introduced four options to allow users to tailor it to fit in with how they usually use the internet.

The company hopes that it will enable its customers to "get the most out of their connection according to what they use the internet for most".

Those looking for a basic setting can keep their connection as it is with the standard setting, which Be says is ideal for everyday usage.

However, if the internet is used for watching video files on services such as YouTube or BBC iPlayer, can optimise their connection to be as fast as possible.

Surfers who require a constant and reliable link to the net, for example those who use VoIP or Skype, can optimise it for reliability.

Online gamers who use their connection to play over the web can set up a gaming mode, which will enable them to get a faster response time when connecting to servers.

Felix Geyr, managing director of Be Broadband, commented: "As consumers become increasingly sophisticated in their internet needs, the one size fits all approach will no longer suffice. Be's customised approach is like tuning the engine of a car to get the best performance."

He added that while the connection speed would be dependent on the proximity to the exchange, it could allow subscribers to get the most out of their broadband.

Be currently offers a 24Mbps package with unlimited usage and a static IP address for £22 each month.
