Broadband speed is deciding factor

For customers choosing which provider is the best for broadband, TV and telephone packages, internet connection speeds could be the different between signing up or moving on.
Whether telecommunications companies can provide fast broadband is the most important factor for shoppers when choosing which package to sign up to, according to research by Cable.co.uk.
More than a third of people polled by the website said faster broadband was more important than value for money or the convenience of dealing with a single firm, its survey revealed.
In addition, only one in five questioned believed that better value overall would make them sign up for a TV, broadband and telephone bundle. The ability to receive all three services from one provider came bottom in the list of priorities.
Paul France, chief executive of Cable.co.uk, said, "Broadband providers in the UK have seen a rise in demand for faster broadband, despite the availability of cheaper packages.
"Given the current economic climate you'd expect value for money to be the consumer's top priority but that's simply not the case."
In response to growing demand for superfast broadband, Virgin Media now offers speeds of up to 100 megabits per second, and BT is continuing to develop its Infinity fibre broadband services.
Hinckley is the first town in the Midlands to receive Virgin Media's 100 megabit per second broadband service, the Hinckley Times reports.
Other towns with access to the company's superfast broadband include Greenock and Stockport, who also boast some of the speediest services in the UK.
Jon James, executive director of broadband at Virgin Media, told the newspaper that residents would be "blown away" by the impact superfast connections will have on their day-to-day lives.
The launch is a "significant milestone" for the evolution of UK broadband, he added.
Virgin Media's superfast speeds could provide internet users with an incentive to switch.
