Broadband users can 'save on calls'
The benefits of using tools such as Skype over home phones have been detailed in an article in the Sunday Times.
Skype allows broadband users unlimited calls to landlines, as well as some mobiles, using internet connections to bypass standard call charges.
Consumers can use the service within the UK for £23 per year, with a rate of £6.95 for calls abroad, through a microphone and speakers on their computer.
However, a warning was also issued by the newspaper. It said: "Calls to mobiles in the UK are more expensive with Skype. In most cases it will cost you 16p a minute but only 12.5p a minute during the day and 7.5p in the evenings with BT."
It was revealed that mobile phone users could use the service through mobile internet connection, which could stop people going over their limit.
Skype was established in 2003 by Niklas Zennstrom and Janus Friis, when the software was launched to improve international communication.
