Mourners will soon be able to use their broadband connection to watch funerals, thanks to developments at Southampton Crematorium.

For a £75 fee, internet users can purchase a password which allows them to watch a webcast filmed on a digital camera at the back of the service.

Those wishing to then buy a DVD of the event can do so for £50, or pay £25 for an audio recording to help them remember the funeral.

Manager of the crematorium Trevor Mathieson explained why they were using the advantages of the internet.

"Some people will think it's not the done thing. But we live in a world where family members live all over the place," he said.

"A lot of people cannot make it to a crematorium."

It was also recently announced that those living in England and Wales can plan the specifics of their own funerals online with funeralplansonline.co.uk, which offers a range services and options.
