East Sussex business broadband 'must be improved'
Friday 13th May 2011, by Daniel King
Calls for improved access to business broadband in East Sussex have reached Westminster - and local councillors are confident their pleas will be heeded.
Council leader Peter Jones met with culture and media minister Jeremy Hunt to discuss practical solutions to improving the region's broadband services.
Following the meeting, Mr Jones noted: "The rollout of superfast broadband can provide an enormous boost to our economy.
"It will help businesses in our main towns and especially in our more remote, rural areas where access to this technology is crucial."
The county council has made the rollout of fibre optic superfast broadband a priority, having set aside £2 million of its own capital development finances to support any future project.
A bid is also being prepared for funding from Broadband Delivery UK, the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills body set up to fulfill a range of broadband targets, including providing universal broadband access across the whole of the UK.
