Microsoft extends XP withdrawal deadline

Microsoft extends XP withdrawal deadline Software giant Microsoft has announced that it will extend the sales availability of its Windows XP operating system after complaints that it was being withdrawn too soon.

In a drive to switch all Windows users to the new Vista system, which was launched last year, Microsoft has planned to withdraw XP from the shelves on January 30th 2008.

However, after customer feedback, Microsoft has extended the deadline an extra five months to June 30th. The company will continue to sell the Windows XP Starter Edition for low-cost PCs until June 30, 2010.

Mike Nash, corporate vice president of Windows Product Management, said: "While we've been pleased with the positive response we've seen and heard from customers using Windows Vista, there are some customers who need a little more time to make the switch to Windows Vista."

Earlier this week, Microsoft launched an updated version of its search engine, Windows Live Search.
