Motorola chosen for Fiji's mobile broadband drive

Tuesday 28th April 2009, by Daniel King

Motorola has announced that its latest broadband technology is to be utilised to serve the needs of an enhanced internet connectivity drive in Fiji.

The company states it has been selected by Unwired Fiji, the first wireless web service provider in the country, to incorporate its latest developments in WiMAX networking to design and deploy a new system.

It is hoped the offering will be able to deliver an end-to-end 802.16e-based networking solution that will boost Unwired Fiji's current coverage and capacity capabilities.

Motorola claims its carrier-grade communications equipment and services will be able to strengthen the operator's position as a market-leader to a "world-class" level.

Eric Starnes, vice-president of sales and operations for home and networks mobility at the electronics firm's Asian arm, said: "Our carrier-grade WiMAX solutions are flexible and scalable enough for mobile networks of various size and layout."

He added: "They are also affordable for operators with smaller operations, allowing them to reserve head room for further business growth."

Earlier this week, the company announced it had received the WiMAX Forum Certified seal of approval for its 2.5GHz CPEi 25150, CPEi 25750 and its WiMAX Access Point 25600 devices.

The announcement adds to Motorola's current portfolio of similarly-accredited products like the WiMAX Access Point 25400 model - which received its certification in June last year.

Ron Resnick, president and chairman of the WiMAX Forum, said the move would strengthen Motorola's position as a provider of wireless broadband services to those looking for business networking solutions.
