Motorola docking station 'improves mobile broadband performance'

Thursday 11th February 2010, by Daniel King

Motorola has released a new docking station designed to improve the reliability and speed of mobile broadband connections for people accessing its WiMAX networks.

It will work on Motorola's popular USBw 200 dongle and will be demonstrated in more depth at Mobile World Congress 2010.

Users only need to connect the docking station to a mobile device - most commonly a laptop - and attach the USBw 200 to the station in order to benefit from a "significant improvement" in connection.

Bruce Brda, senior vice-president at Motorola Home and Networks Mobility, says: "Motorola has a broad portfolio of high-performance, high-quality WiMAX devices that meet customers' diverse needs for connectivity.

"The docking station for the USBw 200 is our latest innovation to improve indoor coverage so people have greater flexibility on where they can enjoy personal media experiences."

Motorola has also installed technology to allow the docking station to work in conjunction with the USBw 200 dongle switching feature - which means it will always take signal from the strongest of the two antennas in operation, resulting in the greatest broadband connection being used at all times.

The telecommunications firm says the addition of the docking station to its portfolio of products fulfils a significant need for a USB-based solution to provide broadband on the go.

Some of the areas of the dongle users of the station can expect to see an improvement in include versatility, functionality and performance.

Last year Motorola launched the Wireless Manager 2.0 system which allows broadband customers to connect securely to networks.
