O2 announces new broadband deal

Tuesday 10th November 2009, by Daniel King

A new offer has been announced this week by O2 that may tempt consumers looking for a broadband package that is tethered to their monthly mobile phone tariff.

The carrier unveiled plans to introduce a special deal whereby users of one of its most popular smartphones will also be able to pay a bit extra to get access to one of three web options.

It was noted that the Apple iPhone 3G would be made available between now and the end of the year with an extra monthly charge that would give subscribers use of the firm's Premium, Pro or O2 Home Broadband Access.

The package is available to existing and new customers for a limited time only and the 3 GB Internet Tethering Bolt On will be priced at a discounted rate of £9.79 per month.

Peter Rampling, head of consumer mobile at the network, said that the news may be welcomed by those looking to stay hooked up to the web when at home, as well as while they are out and about.

"Effectively you get both for just £9.79 a month. Total connectivity means our customers will always be connected, at home and on the move," he concluded.

However, the iPhone is available on the Orange network from today and with its own range of broadband facilities available it could be that consumers require a price comparison site to make sure they select the deal that is best suited to their needs.

Vodafone has also unveiled a deal with Apple that will see the smartphone arrive on its network soon.
