Safe online shopping tips offered

Safe online shopping tips offered Broadband users can avoid the risk of online fraud by shopping on approved websites, according to consumer guide Shopsafe.

Director of the website Simon Crisp explained that looking for schemes such as the SecureCode service can remove any risk involved.

Securecode is approved by Visa and Mastercard and works as an online equivalent to chip and pin, said Mr Crisp.

"Use a safe website that's been recommended to you so its one that's got a badge of approval," he added.

However, younger people are less likely to be deterred by a website which does not carry proof that it is secure, with 58 per cent saying they would still use such a site, according to credit-protection company CPP.

Research by CPP also showed that one in ten people had been the victim of online fraud, with an average lifetime online spending of £72,000 - highlighting the importance of online security and conscientious broadband use.
