The ball was on-line

The ball was on-line Broadband users will be able to watch Wimbledon using their connection until 2014, thanks to a five-year contract secured by the BBC.

As well as television and radio coverage, BBC iPlayer will host the tennis championships on broadband, including extra coverage of the action.

BBC director of sport Roger Mosely explained: "We are deeply proud of historic ties with Wimbledon, but this is focused on state-of-the-art digital services."

Tennis fans have been able to watch Wimbledon on the BBC since 1937, 15 years after the games moved to their present famous surroundings.

Meanwhile, broadband users with a special interest in sport could be interested in deals such as the Sky packages announced last year, which offer customers internet and telephone access, as well as the Sky Sports channels.

The Picnic deal also offers up to 16 Mbps broadband speed, as well as improved access to television and call packages.
