Report predicts sharp rise in mobile broadband

The number of mobile broadband subscribers around the world will top 5.2 billion by 2011, a new report has claimed.
According to Infonetics Research, cellular mobile broadband subscribers are forecast to grow by a compound year-on-year rate of 104 per cent by that year.
This trend will be driven by a proliferation of voice services in large emerging markets like India and China.

Boost for online shopping as economy sours

Widespread access to broadband and the rising cost of travelling to shops to buy goods has resulted in an increase in the number of people shopping online.
This is one of Capgemini UK's key findings after conducting a survey into retail habits in the UK as the economy softens.
The study shows that the convenience of online shopping has enticed Britons who are making an extra effort to reduce the cost of living.

UK broadband penetration 'will top 60% by 2012'

The UK and 16 other countries are expected to exceed 60 per cent broadband penetration by 2012, according to new research from Gartner.
In fact, global broadband connections are set to increase from 323 million to 499 million by that year.
Some markets are even expected to reach 80 per cent broadband penetration or higher by 2012.
