A 75-year-old woman in Sweden is able to download a high-definition DVD film in two seconds because she has what is thought to be the fastest consumer broadband connection in the world.
Sigbritt Lothberg, from Karlstad in central Sweden, benefits from a broadband connection of 40 gigabits per second, while the average speed for UK connections is 8 mbps, the Local reports.
Ms Lothberg, who had previously not used a computer, is the mother of internet whiz Peter Lothberg, who arranged the connection for her.
The technology expert said that he wanted to showcase a new router system and how it works over long distance fibre networks.
"I want to show that there are other methods than the old fashioned ways such as copper wires and radio, which lack the possibilities that fibre has," said Mr Lothberg, who works at Cisco.
Recently, a survey by Epitiro found that BT was the fastest and best performing broadband provider in the second quarter of 2007.
