A decade of blogging

A decade of blogging The phrase 'weblog' is now ten years old, a new report by the BBC has revealed.

Since being coined as a phrase by Jorn Borger, blogging has proven to be increasingly popular with broadband users, bands and actors, while even politicians such as David Cameron have been influenced by the phenomenon.

Mr Borger set out the definition of blogging in 1997, and wrote his own popular online diary, Travels Across the Web.

There are now thought to be over 70 million bloggers all over the world, with more coming online every day, according to watching firm Technorati.

However, there were a handful of undefined bloggers prior to his classification, which has led to disputes over the official birth date of the online tool.

In April, the Guardian reported the anniversary with an article celebrating some of the most powerful blogs which have recorded everything from divorce, slander to the situation in Iraq.
