AOL enhances video search facility

AOL has announced it is making it easier for broadband users to find the video content they want online with the launch of enhanced search services through its Truveo subsidiary.
The former internet services provider and media group said the offering is now available across 17 localised portals, including the UK, US, France, Germany, Italy, Japan Spain and Turkey, making it the second largest site of its kind in the world.
It noted the Truveo video search engine receives 25.6 million unique visitors per month based on recent comScore figures for April 2009 and 11.4 million of these are in Europe.
Pete Kocks, president of the online portal and vice-president of AOL, said the new announcement means millions of viewers will now be able to access video content and enjoy a broad range of channels and TV shows in its catalogue of listings.
"Truveo has long been recognised as a leader in video search technology - and today we are building on that reputation with an improved experience that makes discovering and sharing video content even easier and more personalised," he added.
According to AOL, the site now allows access to over 350 million online videos and has been enhanced to offer faster and simpler search facilities - with a new homepage that provides "more personalised control".
The site is today (June 25th) listing Transformers 2, Shaq, Wimbledon, Jon and Kate, and Barack Obama among its most frequently looked-for videos.
