AOL relaunches homepage

AOL has relaunched its homepage to incorporate a number of new features that may be of interest to broadband users looking for a tailored way to surf the web and collate news and bookmarks.
This week the company announced the beta release of the new site, which also integrates a number of social networking options, email accounts and third party sources into one easy to access page.
Users will be able to customise the background to the site, choosing from the six new designs made available as part of the relaunch. In addition, links, bookmarks and frequently visited pages can be added to the dashboard, with drag, drop and reordering facilities available to keep the homepage as personal as possible.
RSS feeds and other external data can also be linked to the new AOL resource, which could be useful for professionals looking to keep abreast of the latest stock market developments or simply for casual users monitoring news, sport or any other form of third party data feed.
The revised site is part of AOL's MediaGlow publishing division, which also looks after other online portals like Asylum, WalletPop, Autoblog and Flytrap Games.
Dana Dunne, AOL's European chief executive, said there is now so much data available that broadband users require a single hub that they can rely on to collate the information they need - and this is something that the new homepage caters for.
"For the advertising community, it means even greater reach and relevancy for campaigns aimed at audiences across a wealth of rich media content and channels already available on AOL," she added.
