BBC moves ahead with internet TV project

The BBC Trust has announced more details relating to its proposed web-based entertainment initiative that currently goes by the name of Project Canvas.
In addition to revealing some of its plans to combine broadband connectivity with the latest in internet protocol-based television content, the broadcasting company has asked stakeholders for their thoughts on the move.
The BBC Executive has proposed a joint venture partnership to deliver the service and has seen a first period of public consultation conducted by its trust - which has resulted in a request for more information to help stakeholders.
Diane Coyle, trustee for the group, commented: "We are now giving stakeholders the chance to let us have their comments so that we can give them careful consideration."
She added that over the next few months, the group as a whole will engage closely with those who have an interest in the broadcasting group so that "a fully informed judgement" can be made.
However, those signed up to digital web-based TV services from BT Vision will not have as long to wait if they wish to take advantage of the latest entertainment - after the group announced this week it had secured a new partnership with Sony Pictures television.
The deal means that a host of new pay-per-view movies will be made available via the internet-enabled set-top box including recent hits such as The Dark Knight, Terminator Salvation, Rachel Getting Married, Seven Pounds and The International.
Marc Watson, chief executive of television and online services for BT Retail commented: "We can [now] offer BT Vision customers many exciting films and classic hits from one of Hollywoods best and most respected studios."
