Broadband "becoming the norm"

The use of broadband in the UK is fast becoming standard for many consumers, according to one expert.
Broadband connections are now "becoming the norm" for Britons as a result of their impact on services such as downloading films and music from the internet and playing games online, a spokesperson for the Internet Services Providers' Association said.
He added it is likely that broadband will become an "absolute necessity" in the future, although some may feel the need to keep a dial-up connection for back-up reasons.
"People are leaving school being used to broadband - which has obviously changed from even seven or eight years ago," the spokesperson commented, adding: "People will actually consider broadband access when they are setting up home."
Almost nine in ten web connections in the UK are made via broadband, according to recent figures from the Office for National Statistics.
