Broadband 'can help teachers'

The importance of broadband and the internet in education has been highlighted at the BETT exhibition, the world's largest technology in education event.
According to the director of the British Educational Suppliers Association, who co-organises BETT, the internet provides teachers with a huge learning tool.
Roy Barker explained: "The information that can be sourced provides a wealth of information and also generates a platform for discussion."
However, Mr Barker also added that home broadband connections could help children to research homework or develop their learning skills in online activities.
Research by the lead government agency for Information and Communications Technology BECTA, has shown that older pupils are more likely to achieve learning gains from access to the internet outside school, including increasing understanding and revising for tests.
Meanwhile, Mr Barker commented that the digital revolution which can mean students are more IT savvy than their teachers and parents, is being supported by Continuous Development Programmes - which could ensure the continuing role of broadband in education.
