Broadband connections over power lines reported

Those hoping for a broadband connection in North Solihull could get their wish, thanks to a connection delivered over power lines.
Reports suggest that the scheme will initially service a multi-storey housing block as a trial, using special plugs.
It has been revealed that the broadband connection will be fed into flats be electrical power lines, after being delivered wirelessly to a radio receiver on the rooftop of the building, allowing consumers to plug into the internet with a convertor unit plugged into their three-point socket.
Chris Deery, head of IT at Solihull Community Housing, which is running the scheme offering subsidised broadband, explained that it was developed as a low-cost, low-maintenance way of delivering connections.
"We wanted to minimise the civil engineering work required to deliver broadband to multi-storey buildings, as well avoid causing disruption to individual tenants during implementation," said Mr Deery, reported by vnunet.com.
CI-Net, who will be delivering the scheme in Solihiull, offers networks, internet service providers and hosting within the UK.
