Broadband connections 'rising'

The proportion of web connections that are made via broadband is on the increase, according to a new report.
Almost nine in ten internet connections are broadband, while the number of dial-up connections - now accounting for 11.6 per cent of all connections - has continued to fall, the Office for National Statistics (ONS) said.
The agency also found that greater numbers of web users are now using broadband speeds of more than 2Mbps compared with figures collected earlier this year.
About 49.2 per cent of web connections featured speeds of more than 2Mbps, up from 47.2 per cent in June 2007.
"The market share of broadband connections has been increasing since the index began in 2001, reflecting its continuing popularity, widespread availability and competitive connection packages offered by ISPs," the ONS stated.
These findings came as communications regulator Ofcom revealed that growing numbers of over-65s are now making use of broadband internet connections.
