Broadband customers to benefit from BT deal

Broadband customers to benefit from BT deal

(Thursday, 6th December 2007)

Customers of a number of broadband providers across the UK look set to benefit from potentially faster and more reliable connection speeds following a recent deal.

BT Wholesale and software firm Sharedband have formed an agreement that will allow BT to distribute an application enabling its internet service provider (ISP) clients to link multiple broadband lines together in order to speed up web connections.

For example, this could allow certain ISPs to provide a 4Mbps connection over two 2Mbps lines, Sharedband chief executive Paul Evans remarked.

"Crucially, the upload speeds will also be transformed," he added.

Earlier this year, broadband provider Talk Internet, based in Warrington, made use of the Sharedband software suite to launch its ADSL bonding service.

The ISP said that the application would be capable of supporting other types of web connections, such as SDSL, cable and wireless, in the future.
