Broadband market reassessed

(Tue, 20th November 2007)

Communications regulator Ofcom has published a new report detailing updates on its work in the broadband market, among other sectors.

Its second annual research and policy evaluation report revealed that the affordability of broadband services is now not the biggest obstacle for Britons on low incomes looking to connect to the high-speed web.

In addition, a growing number of older consumers have taken up broadband services since the end of 2006, Ofcom found.

However, Britons were found to still be concerned about internet security, with two-thirds stating that they were very worried about this issue.

Ofcom also noted that complaints about Migration Authorisation Codes from broadband switchers have fallen by 75 per cent since March this year, following the introduction of new rules to help consumers switch broadband services more easily.

Last week, Ofcom stated that the UK retail broadband market is currently "performing well" as a result of consumers benefiting from a range of options when looking to switch broadband providers.
