Broadband penetration exceeds 50% in Welsh counties

More than 50 per cent of homes and businesses in four Welsh counties now have high-speed broadband internet connections.
According to BT, Anglesey and Pembrokeshire are two of the first places in the UK to reach this milestone.
ADSL broadband penetration was also found to have exceeded 50 per cent in Ceredigion and Conwy.
This is higher than the amount recorded in any counties in England, while Powys is following closely on 49 per cent.
Ann Beynon, director for Wales at BT, hailed the figures as a "fantastic achievement" for the country.
She commented: "It shows that many people and businesses in these counties are switched on to the great benefits offered by broadband technology."
Ms Benyon added that the UK, and Wales in particular, are leading the world in terms of broadband availability and take-up.
However, she insisted that the country can still do better, urging the Welsh Assembly government to work with telecommunications and commercial providers to support broadband take-up among businesses.
Politician in Wales were also advised to provide greater education about modern technological innovations, particularly since they could have a positive impact on rural communities amid the current economic downturn.
BT stated that it is currently working to find solutions for the relatively small number of people who still have difficulty accessing new technologies, such as broadband internet connections.
This comes after BT Business stated that Welsh companies can still thrive in the next 12 months, despite gloomy economic forecasts.
