Broadband services 'could be deregulated'

The level of broadband competition in certain areas could lead to the ending of EU regulations in certain areas, reports Reuters.
Viviane Reding, EU Telecoms commissioner, has spoken to the European Parliament about broadband services in the UK, saying that competition eliminates the need for regulation.
"Only regulate where regulation is necessary, where there are bottlenecks," Ms Reding is reported as saying, adding that other states could soon follow suit.
Ms Reding was recently interviewed on German station DW-TV, where she spoke of her wish for a Europe-wide broadband strategy which would introduce services to isolated areas.
Although she explained that a regulatory body in the telecommunications market could aid the implementation of European law before the introduction of greater competition.
The regulatory body would oversee the 27 national regulators already present in the EU market.
