Broadband speeds 'not just an issue for geeks'

(Mon, 9th June 2008)

Following a broadband tour of Britain on behalf of the BBC, technology expert Rory Cellan-Jones has published a report on the country's high-speed internet and its issues.

Mr Cellan-Jones looked at the expanding use of mobile broadband, as well as the typically slower broadband in rural areas - an issue which could interest those looking at finding the best deal.

He added: "Some firms seem to think that broadband speed is only an issue for a minority of geeks. Well guess which subject has attracted more comment on the BBC's website than any other in its history?"

It was revealed that 60,000 commented on the issue as part of a forum discussion, highlighting the importance of broadband speeds to many consumers.

Meanwhile, customers unsure about the service they are receiving may be interested in the broadband calculator developed by PlusNet, which allows users to monitor their own usage in order to find the best deal.
