Broadband users 'should take advantage of enhanced security'

There are a whole host of new and powerful security solutions available to broadband users they would be wise to take advantage of, it has been advised.
A spokesman for Websense, a group which specialises in providing global integrated internet data and email protection, said there are many products that companies and professionals in particular have at their disposal.
Mark Murtagh, technical director at the group, explained managers may feel they are in a good position to safeguard their web security, but added that behavioural solutions are only capable of so much.
He noted that instead, broadband users should be looking for a sytem that has the ability to provide real-time analysis and security to cope with the needs of modern web 2.0 facilities - a move which is "clearly essential" when the sophistication of current threats are considered.
"Legacy solutions fall short, but new powerful security products are widely available which analyse web traffic in real-time, instantly categorise new sites and dynamic content, proactively discover security risks and block dangerous malware," Mr Murtagh concluded.
The comments follow a recent study by Dynamic Markets that looked at the amount of pressure IT professionals are being put under by their bosses to open up to the many opportunities the internet now presents and how this affects security levels.
It was revealed that 86 per cent of IT managers admitted to feeling this way about how their executives were pushing for more web 2.0 integration, with 34 percent suggesting the pressure was coming from their marketing departments.
