BT's broadband and telecommunications services are to be utilised as part of this year's BMW International Open Championship, it has emerged.

Alongside Cisco, the company's German division has been chosen to support the golfing event, supplying a host of solutions to visitors, participants, organisers, staff and members of the worldwide press.

The tournament begins on June 25th at the Golf Club Munich Eichenried and, as part of the deal, BT and Cisco will offer networked IT services that connect the venue's central Clubhouse with the Fairway Club and Press Centre.

It is claimed that this will involve the implementation of "leading-edge communications technology", for which both companies will be responsible.

BT and Cisco will also debut a new service, designed for those who will be conducting business while attending matches.

"Using the latest high-end video communications technology, business people can join meetings around the world from Munich without leaving the city," BT explained.

The provider recently announced a deal that would see its wireless broadband services introduced in the Starbucks chain of coffee shops.

This year's BMW International Open will be the 21st anniversary of the event and over 60,000 spectators are expected to be in attendance. The official website for the European tour states the number of international organisers involved in bringing the championship together amounts to around 3,000.

Germany is also hosting two other major golfing events in 2009 - the Deutsche Bank Players Championship of Europe and Mercedes-Benz Championship.
