BT 'to improve broadband connections across Scotland'

BT has agreed a deal with the Scottish Government which will see the telecommunications firm upgrade the country's broadband capabilities.
The joint partnership will see eight rural telephone exchanges modernised, adding to the 71 that are already in the hands of BT.
Many of Scotland's broadband systems are already running at close to full capacity, meaning the potential for introducing widespread broadband or super-fast speeds is limited with the existing technology.
However, BT will make upgrades to ensure that people from Glasgow to Aberdeen can benefit from the latest, state-of-the-art broadband connections.
Jim Mather, enterprise minister for the Scottish Government, said: "I know there is real frustration in some rural areas where households and businesses have been unable to obtain a satisfactory broadband service. That's why we are already acting with BT to improve Scotland's broadband infrastructure."
Areas which are already operating close to their limit include Dumfries and Galloway, Lochaber, Skye and Wester Ross, Argyll and Bute, Moray, Caithness and Sutherland and the Scottish Borders.
Brendan Dick, director of BT Scotland, stated his belief that "huge demand" for broadband internet has caused the rapid decline in suitability of the country's existing network.
He suggested that BT's work on almost 80 telephone points is "good news" for consumers hoping to gain a rapid web connection.
BT has recently launched the Business Total Broadband Fibre product, which enables companies to use the fastest internet speeds available.
It offers firms the ability to bypass heavy traffic during peak times and use a 'fast lane', which could help to maintain a 40 Mbps.
