BT Vision lands deal with Sony Pictures

Consumers signing up to BT's combined telephone, broadband and television services have been given more entertainment options this week after the service provider announced details of a new partnership.

The company has agreed a deal with Sony Pictures that will increase the amount of on-demand movies accessible via its digital set-top box, with titles available from the group's vast back catalogue.

In addition, BT Vision users will be able to select a host of newer Hollywood blockbusters, dramas, romantic comedies, thrillers and Oscar-nominated cinematic releases.

Among these will be Christopher Nolan's second film in the reboot of the Batman franchise The Dark Knight, which stars Christian Bale in the central role and the late Heath Ledger as the DC Comics hero's arch nemesis the Joker.

Other action films featured will include Terminator Salvation, the latest movie in the series that started in 1984 with director James Cameron and lead Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Angels & Demons - Oscar-winning drama with Tom Hanks and Ewan McGregor - will also appear on the BT Vision service, as will The International with Clive Owen, Seven Pounds featuring Will Smith and Rachel Getting Married - which won its lead actress Anne Hathaway an Academy Award nomination.

Marc Watson, chief executive of television and online services at BT Retail, said the group was "delighted" to be able to offer such a selection of films to its customers.

"The addition of Sony Pictures' movies to BT Vision is a substantial, high profile addition to our service. It means we now have long-term deals with all the major studios," he noted.
