BT's iPlate 'should boost broadband speeds'

Friday 12th September 2008, by Daniel King

BT has released a device that it claims will provide broadband speeds with a significant boost.

Reviewers at PC Pro stated that the iPlate is capable of improving the speed of internet connections by up to 60 per cent in some cases.

The device fits onto the master phone socket and is installed by unscrewing the top section and putting the item in place.

Broadband users looking to try out the iPlate can purchase one for around £10, although BT has hinted that some internet service providers may be handing them out to customers struggling to get adequate speeds.

BT's tests of the product led to claims that it will create an average improvement of around 1.5Mbps but that in some cases, twice this could be added.

Purchasers of the device should give it at least 36 hours before expecting any improvement as BT limits the speed of the line to ensure stability of connection.

BT's new HomeHub can currently be acquired for free with its heavy use package. The firm claims that it will provide wireless range which is twice that of any other provider.
